ENCASSAN LOCK

About

Simple lock located on the Canal du Midi. The lockmaster's house dates from the middle of the 18th century, the interior was composed of a living room and a stable.
The name of this lock comes from Occitan and means "the oak".
During its construction, enormous errors of levelling were made, due to the inaccuracy of the instruments of the time. When it was put into water in 1672, it was realized that the single lock chamber was insufficient, thus the addition of a second basin.
