About
This museum features extensive collections of ancient earthenware pieces from the Martres region, glazed clay pieces and pottery common to the south of France, and more than 1,500 ceramic tiles, including the famous Leclerc tiles of Martres-Tolosane revisited in cross-stitching by the embroiderers of Boussan.
At the end of a lane lined with plane trees and surrounded by a magnificent park, the museum is established in the former thermal baths of Barthète, a spot renowned for the effectiveness of its mineral water, which is charged in bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium. Built in a neoclassical style, this building accommodated spa visitors from 1863 to 1927. The hot springs are still active. This is a unique place where applied arts and contemporary arts live together harmoniously and in a very active way. The works of international artists punctuate the tour, sometimes tying in with the collections.
The museum displays a very rich collection of 18th and 19th Century ceramics from the region of Comminges and more than 1500 French, European, and North African tiles. Contemporary art displays.
