The Canal and the Lauragais
In this area reminiscent of Tuscany, the vast plains bathed in sunlight vie for your notice sith the slopes planted with sunflowers or cereals.
Here and there, the castles of the Lauragais stand proudly witness to a « golden age » when pastel (woad) constitued one of the greatest sources of wealth for the area. And the canal, wich wends its way through spectacular landscapes, is an open invitation to a walk along its banks and marvel at its ingenious design.
The Garonne as a guiding theme
BY FOOT, VIA GARONA THE TRAIL TO EXPLORE
Via Garona GR861, is in itself a beautiful opportunity to follow the footsteps of the pilgrims on their way to the Galician city, in the line of the road that leads from Conques in Aveyron to Toulouse in Haute-Garonne.
An ancestral Jacquard itinerary
The GR© 861 or “Via Garona” now links Toulouse to Santiago de Compostela in 170 km.
This very agreable itinerary is in the tradition of variants of the paths to Santiago de Compostela, continuing on from the Conques-Toulouse way (signposted GR c 62b, 36 and 46 by the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pedestre).
