THE HOTEL DE PIERRE OU DE CLARY

To see: the facade and the inner courtyard.
The interior is not open to the public.

About

It was built in the 16th century, rue de la Dalbade, for the de Clary family by the famous architect Nicolas Bachelier. This hotel has always fascinated the locals with its incredible 17th century facade, built in stone in a city that uses mostly brick, hence its nickname of "hôtel de pierre" (stone hotel). But where does all this stone come from? Doesn't the rumor explain that the stones dressing this facade were diverted from the construction site of the new bridge located nearby? Wasn't it said that "there are more stones at the stone hotel than at the bridge! » ? A private property with an imposing façade on the street, it is one of the jewels of civil architecture in Toulouse.
