LAREOLE CHATEAU

The General Council of Haute-Garonne acquired the castle in 1984. Through ambitious restoration, this heritage classified as a historical monument is now open to the public. From May to September, a number of services are offered to visitors : guided tours, contemporary art exhibitions, live shows.

About

In 1579, the architect Dominique Bachelier undertook the construction of the Laréole castle for Pierre de Cheverry, a great pastel merchant and an exceptional character. If the defensive system (ditches, guard house, towers) was imposed by the Wars of Religion, the decorative system alternating bricks and stones is the specificity of Laréole.
The main building is an example of the architectural avant-garde of the time. A testimony to Cheverry's taste for luxury, it has a modern layout combining a large reception room and apartments. Since 2006, the noble floor has hosted contemporary art exhibitions.
